After graduating from Furman University in 1981 with a Bachelor’s degree in Music Theory, Russell and his wife, Janice married in 1982. They moved from Greenville, SC to Nashville, TN in 1986.

He has since become one of Nashville’s most prolific and sought after talents, working with such Country artists as Garth Brooks, Martina McBride, George Strait and Vince Gill as orchestrator and backing vocalist. He recently arranged and orchestrated the #1 song in Country music: “Home” by Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert.

In Christian music, Russell has worked with most major Contemporary and Southern Gospel artists as songwriter, arranger, producer and backing vocalist. He is a multiple winner of Christian music’s most coveted prize, the GMA Dove Award.

Perhaps Russell has become best known for his work in Choral Church music. His musicals and collections have sold millions of copies as he remains the best-selling composer in the Evangelical market.

Russell also owns and oversees 3 small corporations- Maestro Productions, a Nashville music production service, Uno Mas, a full-service public recording studio and Gear For Days, a professional recording equipment rental company, located in the heart of Nashville’s Music Row.

Janice and Russell have 3 children: Since graduating college, their oldest, Adam has been married for 2 years to his wife, Carmen. They live in Nashville and both work in Healthcare. Second child, Caroline, recently graduated from college and now works for a top PR/Advertising firm in Nashville. Their youngest, Whitney, is a junior in high school, heavily involved in Media.

The Mauldins have been members of Christ Church Nashville since 1991, where Russell for years has served on the Board of Directors and is currently Missions Director and a member of the Worship Arts Committee.

For fun, the Mauldins love to travel and enjoy attending Tennessee Volunteers and Titans football games. Russell is also an avid golfer and claims to be the best golfer in his cul-de-sac!
